"Once, a young man complained to his sheikh about his inability to lower his gaze when he came across young women and asked him for his advice. The sheikh remained silent for a little while and then, to the man's surprise, handed him a cup of milk full to the brim.
Then he told him to take this cup through a busy market area and ensure that not even a single drop falls from it. Moreover, he instructed one of his students to accompany him and punish him in case milk spills from the cup .
The next day, the man reported to the sheikh that he was able to fulfil the task. The sheikh asked if he saw any young women on the way? The man replied that he was too busy making sure that he didn't drop any milk to notice the girls.
He was afraid that in case that happened, the student would give him a thrashing, and he would be humiliated in front of everyone.
At this, the sheikh explained:
وكذلك هو حال المؤمن يخاف من الله ومن خزي يوم القيامة إذا ارتكب المعاصي
And this is exactly the condition of a believer. He fears Allah, and he fears the humiliation on the Day of Judgement when he commits a sin"
"Suatu hari, seorang pemuda mengadu kepada syeikhnya tentang ketidakmampuannya untuk menundukkan pandangannya apabila dia terserempak dengan wanita muda dan meminta nasihatnya. Syeikh itu berdiam diri seketika dan kemudian, terkejut lelaki itu, menghulurkan secawan kepadanya. susu kenyang sampai penuh.
Kemudian dia menyuruhnya membawa cawan ini melalui kawasan pasar yang sibuk dan memastikan tiada setitik pun jatuh daripadanya. Selain itu, dia mengarahkan salah seorang pelajarnya untuk menemaninya dan menghukumnya sekiranya susu tumpah dari cawan.
Keesokan harinya, lelaki itu melaporkan kepada syeikh bahawa dia dapat menunaikan tugas itu. Syeikh bertanya adakah dia melihat mana-mana wanita muda dalam perjalanan? Lelaki itu menjawab bahawa dia terlalu sibuk memastikan bahawa dia tidak tercicir susu untuk melihat gadis-gadis itu.
Dia takut sekiranya perkara itu berlaku, pelajar itu akan membelasahnya, dan dia akan dihina di hadapan semua orang.
Dalam hal ini, syeikh menjelaskan:
وكذلك هو حال المؤمن يخاف من الله ومن خزي يوم القيامة إذا ارتكب المعاصي
Dan ini betul-betul keadaan seorang mukmin. Dia takut kepada Allah, dan dia takut akan kehinaan pada hari kiamat apabila dia melakukan dosa."
